On Monday, June 8th, 2026 our third 2D-MATURE summer school has officially started! This time, the doctoral researchers and master’s students of our second cohort are gathering in Duisburg to complete their hands-on lab and method training before the principal investigators and supervisors arrive for the workshop and our symposium.

We kicked off the training with lab tours at the Duisburg campus and an ICAN Training Day in our NanoEnergieTechnikZentrum to show Canadian colleagues which equipment is available.

A highlight of the first week definitively was the trip to Aachen where our second cohort had the opportunity to visit AIXTRON SE – our industry partner and leading global provider of deposition equipment – as well as Professor Max Lemme’s group from RWTH Aachen University. Thank you very much for the wonderful hospitality!

Now our young scientists have begun working on their group projects, which were developed collaboratively. The results will be presented during the workshop week. Can’t wait to see what the teams will achieve!
