We are looking forward to our 23rd seminar on October 29, and this time we are pleased to welcome Prof. Thomas Szkopek from McGill University.

Thomas Szkopek is a Canadian electrical engineer and Professor at McGill University in Montréal. His research focuses on two-dimensional materials, particularly graphene, and their application in nanoelectronic devices, sensors and energy-efficient electronics.

Thomas Szkopek will present two examples of graphene-based technologies. First, he will discuss the viscoelastic properties of graphene oxide membranes and their application in acoustic transduction, including their successful commercialization in high-end headphones. He will also reflect on the journey from laboratory research to a market-ready technology. Second, he will introduce wafer-scale graphene transistors for ion-concentration sensing and discuss new approaches to functionalizing graphene surfaces while preserving their excellent electronic properties.
