After the summer break, our CENIDE & WIN seminar series on 2D-MATURE finally continued! We were delighted to have Claudia Backes as our speaker on September 26th, 2026.

Claudia Backes is currently professor of Physical Chemistry of Nanomaterials. Before she took up this position in October 2021 she was junior research group leader at Heidelberg University for six years awarded with the Emmy Noether Grant. After obtaining her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, she moved to Dublin and joined the Trinity College.
Her research is focused on exploiting liquid-exfoliated layered, tow-dimensional nanomaterials as versatile building blocks for further solutions processing and supramolecular chemistry.

In her lecture she talked about “Making nanomaterial inks from insoluble rocks”. The method she developed already a couple of years ago is called liquid cascarde centrifugation. Professor Backes took the audience on a journey through the most important steps of her research, overcoming several obstacles, ending up at a point where she and her team are now able to produce samples suitable for (device) applications.

Thanks for sharing, Claudia Backes!!
