For our 24th seminar on November 26th, 2026, we invited Bruno Schuler.

Bruno Schuler leads the 2D Quantum Materials Group at Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology. His research focuses on light–matter interactions and ultrafast quantum dynamics in two-dimensional materials, investigated using advanced scanning probe microscopy. He received his PhD from the University of Regensburg following doctoral research at IBM Research Zurich and has received several awards, including an ERC Starting Grant.

In his talk, Bruno Schuler will present advanced scanning probe microscopy techniques that reveal the optical properties and ultrafast dynamics of excitons in 2D semiconductors. His work provides new insights into light–matter interactions, localized quantum states, and defects at the atomic scale.
