On October 23rd, 2025, we were happy to welcome Prof. Cristiana Di Valentin from the Università di Milano Bicocca, who told us all about “Interfacing doped graphene with metal/metal oxide surfaces or molecular layers”.

Cristiana Di Valentin got a PhD in Chemical Sciences since 2000 and completed a Master in Material Science on top of that in 2002. Accordingly, her research activity spans from ab initio computational studies of semiconducting oxides and bidimensional materials for catalysis, energy and sensing applications to multiscale modeling of bioinorganic hybrid nanosystems for biomedical applications.

We learned that doped graphene shows distinct structural and electronic changes when interfaced with various metal surfaces, metal oxides, or molecular layers, as Cristiana Di Valentin and her group demonstrate through DFT simulations and comparison with experimental results.

Thanks, Cristiana Di Valentin, for this insightful and engaging talk.
