Wow, we are still amazed by this motivation and drive of the 2D-MATURE team. Within two weeks our PhD and MASc students put their research into action.

Beforehand all PhD students in Duisburg prepared a group work based on their research projects, which were then carried out in small groups of two to three people. To promote interproject collaboration some groups also teamed up to combine experiments from synthesis, processing, characterization and performance testing.
Special thanks to the Interdisciplinary Center for Analytics on the Nanoscale (ICAN) and its team, who first conducted a training day on Monday and gave our team priorities and reserved capacities at the measuring instruments during the following two weeks.

Research in action

For sure also the laboratories of all our principal investigators (PIs) were in heavy use these two weeks. On Wednesdays we additionally organized “show days” in terms of which all guests were invited to visit the PIs facilities and learn more about their research and the equipment that is provided. After that, we scheduled leisure activities each time to strengthen team spirit and explore the Ruhr Area with our guests.

One highlight of that hands on weeks was definitely the excursion to Aachen. First, we visited RWTH Aachen University, where our principal investigator Andrei Vescan and his PhD student Yingfang Ding are doing research on extended 2D materials. In the afternoon we went to AIXTRON SE learning about their current research projects in nanotechnology.

The grand finale of the hands on training and our summer school in total was the presentation of the project results. We don’t want to spoil too much as work will be continued so you better stay tuned!
